Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Globalization impacted World development in unexpected ways. With energy needs increasing exponentially, the lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated how impactful are activities, such as travelling or working from home, not only from the point of view of energy consumption but also on the point of view of environmental consequences. In spite of the apparent control of this pandemic, a war in Europe and an outbreak of monkey pox are now showing that there is much work to do in what concerns the provision of energy, keeping in mind that there is an ever growing need to produce and use energy more sustainably. Thus, it is mandatory to decarbonize energy while it is also urgent to find alternative sources of energy.
Sustainable development can only be achieved through elimination of fossil fuel dependence, local production and storage of energy, and a more responsible energy consumption. Therefore, the availability of alternative or redundant energy distribution networks and energy storage systems empowerment of energy end users, namely in the scope of citizen renewable energy communities and the use of effective demand response schemes, are fundamental to ensure sustainable development for all.
This Special Issue, Greening Energy to Shape a Sustainable Future, welcomes original and innovative contributions addressing the challenges of energy provision in a World that is developing at different paces and with different resources available, but keeping in mind the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in terms of what concerns the contributions for climate change mitigation and energy decarbonization. Thus, papers considering the aspects related with production, distribution, and use of cleaner forms of energy are welcome. Topics include, but are not limited to, business and economic models for energy production, distribution, and supply; carbon footprint of energy systems; electric vehicles; energy decarbonization; energy efficiency; energy management; energy markets; energy policy; energy storage; hydrogen production, use and storage; LCA of energy systems; renewable energy; renewable energy comunities; smart and energy-efficient buildings; smart energy systems; water-energy nexus.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
