Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Smart energy is a concept of energy system organization and standardization towards the optimal and efficient usage of energy. Smart energy systems might be considered as complex cyber-physical systems combining physical and digital components of the consumption, production, distribution and storage of energy.

Heterogeneous energy sources and new technologies for energy production and distribution increase the complexity of smart energy systems themselves as well as management over the whole life cycle. This requires new approaches for systems design, modelling and management including findings based on artificial intelligence and robotics. New innovative solutions in energy should use cutting-edge intelligent approaches such as condition-based predictive maintenance, predictive analytics, systems management and twins, as well as fog and edge computing. Additionally, searching for efficient ways to create and prototype innovative solutions in energy is still an open question for practitioners and scientists.

Critical review articles, original research papers, and case studies are welcomed in this Special Issue that cover relevant up-to-date topics related to smart energy system analysis and innovative solutions design and implementation.

This Special Issue of Energies, “Smart Energy Analytics and Innovative Solutions”, is intended for practitioners, enterprise representatives, scientists, students, PhD and master’s students conducting research in the area of design analytics and innovative solutions for smart energy systems.

Topics include but are not limited to:

  1. Smart energy predictive analytics (SE-PA);
  2. Smart energy renewable resources (SE-RRs);
  3. Smart energy management systems (SE-MSs) (including automatic control and life-cycle management);
  4. Smart energy modelling and intelligent technologies (SE-ITs);
  5. Smart energy and cyber-physical systems (SE-CPSs) (including IoT, digital twins, fog and edge computing);
  6. Smart energy cyber-security (SE-CS);
  7. Smart energy innovative solutions (SE-ISs);
  8. Smart cities engineering and management (SC-EM).

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
