Parathyroid Disorders, Mineral Metabolism and Bone Functions

A section of Endocrines (ISSN 2673-396X).

Section Information

Metabolic bone diseases are often associated with abnormalities of minerals (such as calcium, phosphorus, or magnesium), vitamin D, bone mass, or bone structure. The parathyroid glands are important in tightly controlling calcium levels in the bloodstream. The parathyroid glands produce parathyroid hormone; the main target organs that the parathyroid hormone affects are the bones and the kidneys. This Section is interested in original research on the endocrinology of interaction and crosstalk among bone, muscle, parathyroids, and other organ systems. The Section publishes highly impactful original manuscripts, reviews, and special articles on basic, translational, and clinical investigations relevant to parathyroid glands, mineral metabolism, and bone.

Topics within the scope of this section include but are not limited to:

  • Parathyroid disorders;
  • Hyper- or hypocalcemia;
  • Osteoporosis;
  • Kidney stones;
  • Hypo- or hyperphosphatemia;
  • Osteomalacia;
  • Skeletal Metabolism;
  • Calcium and phosphorus disorders;
  • Vitamin D deficiency;
  • Rare bone diseases;
  • Systemic conditions associated with effects on the musculoskeletal system, including inflammatory disorders.
