Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

During the last decade, the power system has entered a new technological era where the methods for electricity production and consumption have been digitalized. In this respect, the power system should increase its use of appliances such as smart meters, controllers, sensors, relays, etc. that can communicate with each other, make feasible decisions based on the grid requirements, and operate using the big data taken from these smart devices to provide smooth grid operation. The operation challenges to using these appliances for the Smart Grid need to be highlighted, and more attention is required from experts in industry and academia to fill the gap in our knowledge regarding these.

The main goal of this Special Issue is to pay special attention to digitalization application on energy research and to bring researchers, scientists, engineers together on a common platform to demonstrate novel ideas to make use of digitalization in energy research. Prospective authors are invited to submit their articles with original contributions for review and possible publication in this Special Issue.

In addition, the authors of the papers which will be presented at ICMEPS2021 (www.icmeps.com) that we are organizing are invited to submit their extended versions to this Special Issue of the Journal Electronics after the conference final date of 18th June 2021. Submitted papers should be extended to the size of regular research or review articles, with at least a 50% extension of new results. There are no page limitations for this journal.

The topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

  • Peer-to-peer energy trading in microgrids;
  • Renewable energy grid-interfacing challenges;
  • Microgrid and nanogrid;
  • Battery and its integration using digitalization;
  • Forecasting and optimization applications for energy systems;

Blockchain-based peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading is one of the most viable solutions to incentivize prosumers in distributed electricity markets. However, P2P energy trading through an open-end blockchain network is not conducive to mutual credit and the privacy protection of stakeholders. Therefore, improving the credibility of P2P energy trading is an urgent problem for distributed electricity markets. In this paper, a novel double-layer energy blockchain network is proposed that stores private trading data separately from publicly available information. This blockchain network is based on optimized cross-chain interoperability technology and fully considers the special attributes of energy trading. Firstly, an optimized ring mapping encryption algorithm is designed to resist malicious nodes. Secondly, a consensus verification subgroup is built according to contract performance, consensus participation and trading enthusiasm. This subgroup verifies the consensus information through the credit-threshold digital signature. Thirdly, an energy trading model is embedded in the blockchain network, featuring dynamic bidding and credit incentives. Finally, the Erenhot distributed electricity market in China is utilized for example analysis, which demonstrates the proposed method could improve the credibility of P2P trading and realize effective supervision.
