Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Large pelagic fish and elasmobranchs are important resources in our oceans. They are at the top of the food chain, providing a top-down control over the other trophic levels. Their distribution and ecology are influenced by different environmental parameters including temperature, depth, ocean circulation, and climate change. Furthermore, large pelagic fish and elasmobranchs are longeval; therefore, they are more vulnerable to environmental changes as well as anthropogenic impacts such as industrial fishing and water pollution.
The study of their distribution, thermal and depth preference, aggregation sites, and seasonal migration needs to be implemented for the conservation of these organisms. New technologies such as satellite and acoustic tags, eDNA, catchment datasets, and BRUVs footage are important tools for survey and monitoring campaigns, improving our knowledge on their behaviour and ecology.
For this Special Issue, we invite submissions that address the ecology and movement behaviour of large pelagic fish and elasmobranchs, focusing on their distribution, thermal and depth preference, aggregation sites, and seasonal migration, as well as the utilization of different survey and monitoring tools.
This Special Issue, “Ecology and Distribution of Large Pelagic Fish and Elasmobranchs”, is a platform for the transfer of current knowledge on the ecology and movement behaviour of large pelagic fish and elasmobranchs.
