About Diversity

Aims

Diversity (ISSN 1424-2818) is an international and interdisciplinary peer-reviewed scientific journal concerning biodiversity concepts and applications, biodiversity assessment, and biodiversity preservation. It publishes review papers, regular research articles, interesting images, and communications in the fields of organismic and molecular diversity. Our aim is to encourage scientists to publish their experimental and theoretical results in as much detail as possible. Therefore, there is no restriction on the maximum length of the papers. Full experimental details must be provided so that the results can be reproduced. There are, in addition, two unique features:

  • Comments on any related papers published in this journal can be published as short letters.
  • Electronic files regarding the full details of the calculation and experimental procedure, if unable to be published in a normal way, will be deposited as supplementary material.

Scope

This journal covers all topics related to organismic and molecular diversity, from molecules, genes, populations, and species to ecosystems. Research fields of interest include but are not limited to:

Organismic diversity and diversity preservation:

  • Systematics, taxonomy (only if accompanied by DNA studies);
  • Paleontology;
  • Global change effects on biodiversity (Anthropocene biodiversity loss);
  • Invasive organisms;
  • Conservation management.

Molecular evolution and ecology:

  • Molecular phylogeny and phylogeography;
  • Genetic diversity;
  • Population genetics and ecology;
  • Evolution (including micro- and macroevolution);
  • Community ecology;
  • Restoration ecology;
  • Marine ecology;
  • Aquatic ecology;
  • Terrestrial ecology;
  • Diversity, evolution, and ecology of secondary metabolites;
  • Chemical ecology.

General aspects of diversity assessment:

  • Statistical methods;
  • Mathematical models;
  • Computational methods;
  • Modeling;
  • Next-generation sequencing and DNA barcoding.

MDPI Publication Ethics Statement

MDPI is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). MDPI takes the responsibility to enforce a rigorous peer-review together with strict ethical policies and standards to ensure to add high quality scientific works to the field of scholarly publication. Unfortunately, cases of plagiarism, data falsification, inappropriate authorship credit, and the like, do arise. MDPI takes such publishing ethics issues very seriously and our editors are trained to proceed in such cases with a zero tolerance policy. To verify the originality of content submitted to our journals, we use iThenticate to check submissions against previous publications.
