Dear Colleagues,
Notwithstanding new pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches, such as optimizing care using new monitoring strategies, heart failure (HF) remains a significant worldwide public health problem with increased morbidity and mortality. Moreover, HF is associated with impaired health-related quality of life (QoL) and high healthcare costs, mainly due to hospital admissions. Therefore, prevention-targeted and integrated disease management approaches focused on the early post-discharge period, the so-called ‘vulnerable phase’, where a higher proportion of events in HF patients are concentrated, have been assessed and deployed in recent years.
In this regard, electronic health (eHealth)-based solutions have been gradually incorporated into the treatment of HF patients (from diagnosis to follow-up) over the last few years. However, due to the significant heterogeneity of the HF patients studied and of the eHealth solutions evaluated, their impact on the actual medical treatment of HF patients is not yet widespread. The main aim of this Special Issue is to demonstrate that eHealth is an efficient, effective, useful, cost-effective and user-friendly tool for all patients with HF, as well as for their relatives and/or caregivers, and that it can be a useful tool to improve their diagnosis.
