Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Research and developments in “Friction and Laser-Based Welding, Processing, and Applications” are attracting attention in the field of the manufacturing industries and scientific communities, because of their benefits and potential use as sustainable manufacturing technologies. These technologies have already proved their wide range of applicability on different materials for various engineering solutions. Further, there is a great scope for research and development for these technologies to be applied on different materials to further develop/expand novel engineering solutions with extraordinary benefits for society. In this Special Issue, recent developments in the area of welding and processing through the application of friction- and laser-based technologies will be covered. Technological processing advancements, microstructure analysis, mechanical properties of processed regions, simulation and modeling, and state-of-the-art literature studies are invited to be considered for this Special Issue on “Friction and Laser-Based Welding, Processing and Applications”.

In particular, the topic of interest includes but is not limited to:

  • Friction stir welding and processing
  • Friction stir spot welding
  • Friction stir additive manufacturing
  • Friction stir scribe welding
  • Friction stir extrusion
  • Friction stir channeling
  • Linear and rotary friction welding
  • Laser welding and processing
  • Hybrid laser beam welding
  • Selective laser sintering and melting (laser based additive manufacturing)
  • Laser based directed energy deposition
  • Laser engraving and cutting
  • Applications of friction and laser-based welding and processing
  • Environmental impacts in friction and laser-based welding and processing

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
