Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is the second most frequent cause of young-onset dementia, following Alzheimer’s disease. FTD is actually defined as a clinical syndrome with three main phenotypes: the behavioural variant and two language variants (i.e., nonfluent/agrammatic primary progressive aphasia and the semantic variant, also known as semantic dementia). More recently, a right temporal variant of FTD has also been recognized. The behavioural variant is the most common presentation, and manifests with variable degrees of personality changes and behavioural disorders.

FTD represents a major challenge for diagnosis and management. In recent years, there have been major advances in the understanding of FTD, including cognitive, behavioural and imaging aspects of the syndrome. This Special Issue intends to present state-of-art research on FTD, with a focus on clinical studies exploring how behavioural, cognitive and neuroimaging tools may improve the diagnosis and clinical characterization of FTD and its different phenotypes.
