The Section “Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience” is devoted to addressing fundamental questions in social perception, cognition, emotion, and their practical applications at the behavioral, system, neural circuit, single cell, cellular, and genetic levels. The overall goal is to foster an inclusive and interdisciplinary forum that brings together mutually informative disciplines, such as psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, linguistics, computer science, and engineering, to showcase and advance new theories as well as innovative methods and techniques in studying social, cognitive, and affective processes in addition to their mutual influences and interactions in normal development, aging-related decline, neurocognitive disorders, and psychiatric conditions. For instance, linguistic theories that treat language, emotion, and cognition as independent modules, without much attention to the sociocultural context of linguistic behavior, often find themselves in a difficult position to inform and guide practice in communication sciences and disorders. This Section welcomes cutting-edge basic, clinical, and translational studies using behavioral, neuroimaging, computational modeling, pharmacological perturbation, and neuromodulation methods to advance our understanding of brain–behavior links with an emphasis on the bases and interactions of social, cognitive, and affective processes. Original and review submissions, including theoretical articles, meta-analyses, case studies, observational methods, technical notes, computer simulations and models, statistical methods, perspectives, and commentaries will all be considered.
