Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The microbiome is an essential component of nature and a prolific resource to address current and recent environmental concerns. Most recent innovations have focused on identifying microbiomes that have the potential to promote sustainable food, feed, and biofuel production while supporting circularity principles. For example, omics approaches have been used to identify detoxification/metabolic pathways of contaminants in the environment and to transform waste into valuable resources for a healthy environment. Advanced techniques using microbial technology, synthetic biology, and genetic engineering are being recognized for innovation in the food industry to revolutionize food systems while adhering to sustainable development goals. This is also well recognized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and has underlined the importance of microbiomes in developing environmentally sustainable technologies.

This Special Issue of Biotech, titled "Microbial Technologies in Remediation, Resource Recovery and Sustainability", intends to examine the major elements of microbial-based technological innovations that address environmental concerns using circularity concepts. The scope of the Special Issue includes a wide variety of studies on microbes that turn waste into resources for a sustainable environment. All scholars, industries, and professionals are encouraged to submit research/review articles for consideration in this Special Issue.

Microbial technology innovations are crucial for addressing environmental challenges for greater environmental sustainability by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This Special Issue emphasizes the technological innovations employing microbes in environmental contaminant identification, remediation, and waste to valuable products under circularity concepts. The proposed Special Issue will add the necessary information to the scientific body that will help to identify and transition microbial technology promoting a circular economy with environmental sustainability.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. BioTech is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
