Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In 2030, the estimated number of individuals with Parkinson’s disease (PD) will be over 8 million in Western Europe and in the ten most populous nations of the world. One of the main challenges to be faced will be the development of technological and cost-effective solutions to improve the healthcare for these patients. Remote medical communications, for example in the form of telemedicine and decentralized care pathways, will inevitably become part of the clinical management of this disease. The use of biosensors is a challenge for both the classical motor symptoms (such as, for instance, tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia and posture and gait disturbances) and for the so-called non-motor symptoms (such as for instance hypotension, sexual impotence, stipsis, rem-behaviour disturbances).
