Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Proteins are the most complex and versatile biological macromolecules, possessing myriad structures and countless functions. Order and disorder are intricately intertwined in proteins, and some of them are known to fold into unique structures in order to gain important functions, whereas the functions of other proteins rely on the absence of a unique structure or the ability to undergo disorder-to-order or order-to-disorder functional transitions. Proteins can act alone or may require various partners for their functionality. They can assemble into highly specific proteinaceous machines with sophisticated geometry or form liquid-like droplets. They can be controlled and regulated by a wide spectrum of mechanisms and, in turn, can control and regulate a wide array of biological processes. Therefore, it is not surprising that protein science is deeply rooted in, and has wide and important connections with, various fields of molecular biophysics. This Special Issue entitled ‘Feature Review Papers in Protein Biophysics’ aims to collect high-quality review papers within the field of protein biophysics. The considered article types will also include opinions, perspectives, commentaries, etc.
We encourage researchers to contribute papers highlighting the latest developments in the field of protein biophysics, or to invite relevant experts and colleagues to do so. The topics of interest for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to:
- Protein folding;
- Protein misfolding;
- Pathogenesis of multiple proteinopathies;
- Structural and conformational dynamics;
- Intrinsically disordered proteins;
- Protein–protein interactions;
- Liquid-liquid phase separation;
- Peptides;
- Biosensing, spectroscopy, microfluidics;
- Kinetics and thermodynamics;
- Applications in biotechnology and bioengineering.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Biomolecules is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
