Dear Colleagues,
Bioactive molecules have been extensively investigated for their nutritional benefits and therapeutic roles in various diseases. These molecules regulate pathways that are involved in cancer biogenesis or metastasis, as supported by several studies. The majority of the literature has shown that plant- based, food-derived bioactive molecules affect cellular phenotypes and genotypes through genetic and epigentic regulations. On the contrary, several thousand promising bioactive molecules of the marine environment have been structurally identified, yet their functional significance in cancer therapies or prevention remains to be explored. With the varied number of cancers and limited effectiveness of current treatments, it is imperative to evaluate novel bioactive molecules with therapeutic impacts that can minimize risks and enhance treatment efficacies. The aim of this Special Issue is to publish empirical papers, reviews, and case studies in the area of plant and marine bioactive molecules in cancer. The scope includes both preventive and therapeutic advantages as well as the mechanistic actions of these molecules. This Special Issue will also cover the structural and functional aspects of newly identified bioactive molecules wth potential as drugs in cancer. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Marine biota and their role in cancer treatment;
- Plant-derived phytochemicals: structure and function in cancer therapy;
- Mechanistic action of bioactive molecules in cancer therapy;
- Bioactive molecules and their role in cancer prevention.
