A section of Biology (ISSN 2079-7737).
Section Information
Plants are primary producers capable of synthesising organic material from inorganic components, releasing oxygen in the process, thus representing the basis of life on this planet. Generally lacking a capacity to move, plants have developed an amazing array of adaptations to various biotic and abiotic stresses in their environments. They have been used by humans (ecosystem services, soil and water decontamination, carbon sequestration, food/clothing, medicine, building material), neglected (biodiversity decline, extinctions) and abused (addictive drugs, poisons).
The Section Plants of the journal Biology covers all parts of the plant kingdom (from thallophyta to angiosperms) in natural and managed landscapes as well as in aquatic and controlled environments. This journal section includes topics dealing with the whole range of structural (from subcellular compartments to ecosystems), biochemical (atoms to supramolecules), functional (wild types to transgenics and CASPR/Cas altered) and interactive levels (with other plants, microorganisms, animals and humans). Manuscripts of explanatory/mechanistic nature are particularly welcome as opposed to descriptive ones.
