One review and two research articles will receive an award each. The papers will be selected after a thorough evaluation by the journal Award Committee, led by the Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Ilias Kavouras.

Eligibility for the Award:
– Papers published in Atmosphere from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2022;
– Open to all career levels;
– Both regular and Special Issue submissions will be considered.

Selection Criteria:
The papers will be selected by the journal Award Committee according to the following criteria:
– Scientific merit and broad impact;
– Originality of the research objectives and/or the ideas presented;
– Creativity of the study design or uniqueness of the approaches and concepts;
– Clarity of presentation;
– Citations and downloads.

Prizes:
– One review award: CHF 500 and a chance to publish a paper free of charge in Atmosphere in 2024 after peer review;

We are pleased to announce that Atmosphere will be granting the Travel Award to one junior scientist. The applications will be assessed by an Evaluation Committee consisting of senior scholars from the Atmosphere Editorial Board.

This award provides financial support for the winners to attend an international conference in the field of atmosphere to be held in 2024, in order to hold a presentation, present a poster, or both.

Candidate Requirements:
– Postdoctoral fellows or PhD students.
– Plans to attend an international conference in 2024 (oral presentation or poster).

Required Application Documents:
– Information of the conference the applicant is planning to attend and the abstract that will be submitted.
– Curriculum vitae and list of publications.
– Justification letter describing the focus of the research (max. 800 words).
– Letter of recommendation from the supervisor, research director, or department head, which also confirms the applicant’s status as a postdoctoral fellow/PhD student.

The winner will each be awarded CHF 800 and a certificate.

Dr. Jianhuai Ye is an Associate Professor in the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at the Southern University of Science and Technology, China. Dr. Ye’s research interests include UAV-based atmospheric chemical sensing, anthropogenic–biogenic interactions in the formation of atmospheric secondary aerosols, and the environmental and climate impacts of airborne aerosols. Dr. Ye received his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 2017 and worked as a Camille & Henry Dreyfus Postdoctoral Fellow and an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University from 2017 to 2021. He has an outstanding publication record, with over 50 scientific articles in peer-reviewed international journals. Among his first (or co-first) author publications, two were selected as ESI highly cited articles, three were featured as journal highlight/hot articles, three were chosen as journal cover articles, and one was awarded the journal’s best paper of the year. Dr. Ye has demonstrated exceptional achievements in the emissions and fate of atmospheric biogenic volatile organic compounds, and is a rising star in the competitive field of atmospheric chemistry. Ms. Marta Wenta is a Ph.D. student at University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk, Poland. Her current research focuses on the interactions between sea ice and atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) and the development of a method for the incorporation of associated processes into numerical weather prediction (NWP) models. Her future research will focus on the influence of FSD on ABL processes. This award will support her attendance at the AGU Fall Meeting 2020: The Observations and Modelling of Atmospheric Boundary Processes over Inhomogeneous Sea Ice.

Dr. Brice Evan Coffer is a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. His current research focus is on improving the Significant Tornado Parameter using near-ground storm-relative helicity. His future research will focus on tornadogenesis/failure in multi-storm simulations of supercells and infrasound produced by severe convective storms. As Editor-in-Chief of Atmosphere, I am pleased to announce the winners of the Atmosphere 2017 Travel Awards for Young Investigations: Travel Awards were granted to Dr. Carolin Klinger, a postdoctoral researcher at NOAA Earth System Laboratory, Chemical Science Division, Boulder, CO, USA, for her outstanding research on the effects of 3D thermal radiation on cloud development, both in terms of cloud dynamics and microphysics; and to Dr. Riccardo Buccolieri, an assistant professor at the Dipartimento di Scienze e Tecnologie Biologiche ed Ambientali, University of Salento, Lecce, Italy. He is working on air flow and pollutant dispersion in an urban environment and on the effects of morphology and vegetation on city ventilation through experimental and modelling approaches.
