Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common musculoskeletal diseases, causing significant disability and morbidity worldwide. It is a long-term health condition, requiring multiple interventions to reduce its negative impact on patients’ quality of life. Rehabilitation is widely recommended as the first-line treatment for OA. Therefore, conservative therapies and adequate and individualized rehabilitation programs represent crucial management strategies for people with OA.

In recent decades, the research increasingly focused on disease-modifying conservative treatments followed by appropriate and self-tailored rehabilitation programs. Moreover, the evaluation of biochemical markers, showing low-grade inflammation or cellular and extracellular matrix turnover, allows OA classification, to better develop personalized treatment on the basis of disease severities.

This Special Issue is focused on the use of innovative conservative approaches in OA management, aimed at controlling painful symptoms, allowing functional recovery and improving patients’ quality of life, with particular attention to the following: novel physical therapies, mini-invasive regenerative approaches, technological devices for rehabilitation phase, and emerging technological tools for the study of OA biomarkers.

We encourage researchers to contribute to this Special Issue with both clinical and pre-clinical original research papers. We would also welcome comprehensive reviews summarizing the current knowledge of innovative conservative management of osteoarthritis.
