Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Currently, tropical countries in Latin America are making efforts to contribute to the knowledge of Antarctica, implementing sampling platforms (either research stations or expeditions) on that continent. In the same way, they are encouraging the participation of their scientists in international programs for Antarctic studies. This is the result of the empirical recognition of the probable connections between Antarctica and locations in equatorial and tropical latitudes. This awakening of consciousness is very important regarding the concept that our planet is a primarily closed system that we must treat as an ecosphere.

This Special Issue is focused on highlighting the role and recent efforts of the Latin American community in terms of Antarctica. Works by Latin American authors on Latin American platforms and/or participating in international research teams, as well as publications on the use of data generated from station research or by Latin American expeditions are welcome.
