Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue aims to bring together inspiring research on the development and practical application of environmental performance and life cycle assessments.
International research on life cycle assessments (LCAs) has been carried out for nearly half a century, dating back to the late 1960s and early 1970s. The LCA is a method to analyze and evaluate strategy suitability according to the strength of enterprises and the industry's development stage by using a life cycle analysis matrix. Using it assists with making strategic choices. You can narrow the scope of the choice and identify a target. As an environmental management approach, LCA considers the effects on specific pre-determined ecological concerns over a product's or system's lifetime. As a new preventive environmental protection strategy and means, LCAs are mainly used to evaluate the environmental load caused by a product, process or production activity by determining and quantifying the energy and material utilization, as well as the environmental emission of waste. Life cycle assessments focus on the environmental impact of a system on ecological health, human health, and resource consumption.
In this Special Issue, we aim to collect research on all aspects surrounding environmental performance and life cycle assessments, including, but not limited to, the following fields:
- Evaluating the environmental impact of energy;
- Raw material utilization and waste discharge;
- Identifying and quantifying energy and material consumption and environmental release throughout the life cycle;
- Evaluating the effect of this consumption and release on the environment;
- Identifying and quantifying key opportunities to reduce environmental load;
- Exploring ways to improve the environment.
If you are interested in this topic, we encourage you to submit a manuscript to this Special Issue. I look forward to receiving your submissions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2300 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
