Farming Sustainability

A section of Agronomy (ISSN 2073-4395).

Section Information

Agriculture faces an alarming number of challenges. These include threats from changing climate, diminishing natural resources, degraded soils, loss of biodiversity, and risks posed by chemical-intensive industrial agriculture to human health. For global agriculture to become more sustainable, the adoption of supportive farming practices is no longer an option but a necessity. Even the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has established a framework to guide the agricultural sector towards sustainable and efficient farming. With farmers and agricultural companies adopting sustainable practices in their operations, together with new products and technologies that minimise chemical use and maximise resource use efficiency, the much-needed transformation in agriculture has begun. More research is paramount so as to find innovative solutions to advance sustainable agriculture practices and food security achievements.
