Isolation and Identification of Autochthonous Lactic Acid Bacteria from Commonly Consumed African Indigenous Leafy Vegetables in Kenya
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Manuscript is well writeen, but there isn't some novelity. The methodology is quite basic and maybe you could do sensory evaluation of fermented leaves (in future studies) or applied that in some other product, so you could have also some application part of yours fermented leaves.

Response 1:
We would like to thank the reviwer for the comments. Indeed the purpose of the study was to isolate and identify the dominant lactic acid bacteria from spontaneously fermenting commonly consumed indigenous vegetables in Kenya. In the long run we intend to develop starter cultures that will be applied in the controlled fermentation of the vegetables. Therefore, we appreciate the reviewers foresight concerning the applicability of our product and technology.

Point 5: 420 If you refer at Lactobacillus pentoses and casei by calling them Lactiplantibacillus you create misunderstanding.
Response 5: We thank the reviewer again for pointing out this. However, Lactobacillus pentosus and L. casei have recently been renamed and they now belong to the genus Lactiplantibacillus. Hence Lactiplantibacillus pentosus and casei.

The article is well designed, well written, and has a nice flow of experiments, results, and conclusions. The material/methods can be improved for the experiments to be replicated by other researchers interested in the field. The scientific names should be corrected as per binomial nomenclature, and the references need to be fixed to reflect the same. The study addresses a subject of practical importance and implications. I recommend accepting the article with the incorporation of the minor revisions as per the recommendations attached herewith as a *.pdf file.
