Review of On Assessment of the urban extreme precipitation by satellite esti-2 mates over mainland China

In this study, the authors assessed the performance of the four satellite precipitation products using daily observations 16 from 2344 gauges from 2001 to 2018 over mainland China.

Such statistical evaluations can help to identify and choose the right precipitation products in the desired applications. However, there are important points which must be revised or addressed in the manuscript.

Decision: The paper needs major modification

Comments:

Abstract:

# The results showed that MSWEP outperformed the other SPPs 24 in estimating urban precipitation at the national scale, with a CC of 0.79 and an AB of 1.61.

It is recommended to mention the AB unit.

# It is suggested that you indicate in the abstract whether these satellite products of the rainfall variable can be obtained almost NEAR REAL TIME or are always available with a delay. If the rainfall data are post-processed, it is suggested that these data are suitable for non-real time applications

Introduction:

#Page 2:  line 67-68: It seems that this sentence has no place here or is not connected to the previous content or needs to be further developed.

The Bivariate Moran's I (BMI)[31], a widely used spatial correlation index, has high potential  for evaluating the spatial distribution characteristics[32-34].

# Were there other SPPs that could be evaluated in this area? In other words, what is the reason for choosing these four SPPs? It is suggested that the authors explain about this.

# It is suggested to mention similar studies in other regions  and their main results  in the introduction section and compare the findings in the present research with previous studies

Materials and Methods

Section 2.2.1 : the IMERG-V06 Early-Run precipitation dataset, with a spatial resolution of 0.1° 104 and temporal resolution of 1 day, was used.

It seems that the 2 -day resolution of rainfall is not suitable for nearly moments. It is recommended to explain the importance of rainfall data with a 4 -day resolution in the text. What studies can be implemented with this time resolution
